Position Title: Maintenance Mechanic-Muffin Line

Department: Maintenance/Engineering

Location: Chicago bakery

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Maintains all bakery equipment, buildings and grounds; ensures safe and efficient operations of bakery equipment.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Performs preventive maintenance, repairs and installation of bakery equipment including diagnostics of mechanical and electrical systems(PLCs) and performs necessary repairs. Performs preventive maintenance of buildings and grounds; ensures safe and efficient operations of bakery equipment. Keeps machinery in optimal condition.

     

  2. Makes necessary adjustments to bakery equipment during production; ensures high production and product quality levels. Assists shift production supervisors in the event of equipment malfunctions, electrical or mechanical.

 

  1. Performs regular equipment, building and ground inspections; communicates potential problems and safety issues to immediate supervisor.

 

  1. Performs daily and shift work assignments in a timely and efficient manner to minimize breakdowns or disruptions; documents activities through daily shift reports.

 

  1. Maintains a safe and clean work environment; ensures parts and tools are in good operating order and properly stored and performs general housekeeping of all maintenance areas.

 

  1. Follows all rules and regulations to ensure personal safety, food safety, quality and compliance.

 

6. Performs other job-related duties as may be assigned or required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift up to 75lbs, pushing, pulling and moving objects weighing up to 100lbs plus using carts or dollies. Repetitive motion bending, reaching, stooping, squatting and sitting. Able to stoop, bend and crouch on a regular basis to check equipment or supplies in low-lying areas. Must be able to climb stairs and/or ladders. Must be able to work in an area that contains dust, fumes, chemicals, heat, cold, noise levels higher than normal and heights. Proper protective equipment is provided.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

Extensive knowledge and capabilities of the following skills: mechanical diagnosis and repair required, electrical diagnosis and repair including the programming of programmable logistic controllers (PLC-Allen Bradley) highly preferred. Knowledge or measuring devices and proper parts needed in various machines.

Understanding general concepts of hydraulics and pneumatics.

3 or more years of related maintenance/repair work experience in a manufacturing environment required.

GMPs, Personal and Food Safety Regulations.

Successfully pass a maintenance mechanic aptitude test.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; Allen Bradley programming (PLC) required; 3 or more years of related general maintenance experience.

*Note: All newly hired associates for this position will be required to join a union subject to union initiation fee and monthly union dues.  (Union: BCTGM Local 1)

*All candidates will be required to take and pass a Maintenance Mechanic aptitude test for consideration.
